Leon Haslam wins Race 2 of the SBK at Kyalami

The second race of the World Superbike Championship at Kyalami went to Leon Haslam, the overall championship leader, who showed his strength and, after an exciting group battle with Rea, Biaggi, Crutchlow and Checa, secured the victory.

Rea fought very hard, leading until the penultimate lap, and after fending off several attacks from Haslam, both riders showed great focus on track and nerves of steel, as they kept passing and re-passing each other at every opportunity.

In the end the Yamaha rider prevailed over the one on Honda, but a spectacular battle was left behind, while Max Biaggi completed the podium; despite being in the honor positions, he saw Haslam extend his lead over him in the overall standings.

What an incredible day! The second race has been one of the best I’ve been involved in and without a doubt one of the most difficult.

The race with Rea was unforgettable. I passed him a couple of times, he returned the favor, but I studied him to get past him in the end. The bike improved in the second race and, by lowering it at the front, it felt more balanced.

For his part, the best of our riders was Carlos Checa from fourth place; it’s a shame he was left off the podium, but the Catalan showed a great improvement compared to what we saw at Monza.

It was a very contested race on a very difficult circuit. In the second race we couldn’t find grip and the four-cylinders got away from us, and since they accelerate better than my bike, it’s hard to make up ground.

In the first race everything went well and we had good grip. The performance in both races was similar, but the race positions were not.

The next World Superbike round will be on May 31st at the Miller circuit, in Salt Lake City (Utah), so don’t miss two new races of this spectacular championship.
