José Miralles is the new Spanish Freestyle champion

The last competition of the year was held at the Palacio de los Deportes in Gijón, where we saw the "Loco" Miralles claim the Spanish Freestyle championship title

The last round of the Burn Freestyle Cup 2011 was held at the Palacio de los Deportes in Gijón in front of nearly 6,000 spectators. José “Loco” Miralles won this round, which, together with the one he had already won in Valencia, earned him his sixth Spanish champion title, his second in a row.

“Loco” had to face Pedro Moreno and Remi Bizouard, who finished third and second respectively in the overall standings. The Frenchman performed jaw-dropping tricks, but it was Miralles’ night, as he managed to accumulate more points overall to secure the victory.

Everything started with the height jump, in which all the riders cleared 7.5 meters for the first time, with Albert Florenza being the first to clear 8 meters, something unprecedented until now.

Next came the Freestyle competition itself. The riders had three minutes to perform a total of six jumps. The action began with a scare, as Dylan Trull dislocated his shoulder, which was no obstacle to putting together a great run with several backflips.

Everything was left for the end, in the so-called “Best Trick”. This round consists of two jumps, different from the previous round, and the judges only score the better of the two. Bizouard got the crowd on its feet with a spectacular trick, but could not beat Miralles’ great run, who won the title by just one tenth of a point.
