Jordi Torres takes Moto2 CEV pole at Circuit de Catalunya
Rider Jordi Torres surprised everyone today at Circuit de Catalunya by taking Moto2 pole position despite his injury, while in QP2 the fastest was Kenny Noyes, so there's plenty of action to come tomorrow.
Rider Jordi Torres will start tomorrow from pole position in the Moto2 category of the Spanish Road Racing Championship at Circuit de Catalunya. In this fourth round of the season, the man from Laglisse was the fastest in the first official practice session, setting a lap time of 1.47.813, which earned him the second row for tomorrow.
The QP2 session did not improve on the lap times from the first official session, no rider managed to beat the times set by Torres in QP1. The fastest in this session was Kenny Noyes with 1.48.9, the only one to go under 1.49. Still, he could not get close to Torres’s spectacular 1.47.
So the starting grid has been set based on the times from the first official practice session, with Moto2 poleman Jordi Torres followed by Russell Gómez, Alejandro Mariñelarena, Kenny Noyes and Hafizh Syahrin in the top 5.
Meanwhile, in the top 10 we find Jesko Raffin 6th, Steven Odendaal 7th, Román Ramos 8th, Federico D’Annunzio 9th and Richie Escalante 10th. The bad luck was Santi Hernández’s crash in the final moments of the session, but he suffered no physical consequences.
The track has been very hot, which has meant lap times did not drop. So tomorrow we’ll see what circuit conditions we face. Torres undoubtedly starts as the favorite despite his injury to the left foot, although Noyes rode very well in this QP2, setting 1.48.982, so the Moto2 race at Circuit de Catalunya promises to be interesting tomorrow.
