Johann Zarco takes Moto2 pole at Motegi

The Moto2 World Championship has concluded the battle for pole position at the Motegi Circuit, in the first round of the Asian tour. The Moto2 World Championship has concluded the battle for pole position at the Motegi Circuit, in the first round of the Asian tour. However, in this category there is less nervousness and less excitement, since with the absence of Tito Rabat’s Grand Prix, Johann Zarco was crowned Moto2 World Champion on Friday, so everyone has gone out more relaxed and going all out, but without tension.

On this occasion we have seen the new champion unleash his full potential, under somewhat peculiar track conditions caused by the humidity and the asphalt. The Frenchman set a lap time of 1’50.339, while in second place came Thomas Luthi, who finished 0.171s behind the first.

Behind them we saw Folger, but already more than half a second off the category’s pole-sitter on the Japanese track, so there is a considerable gap between the leading duo and the rest of the riders. The top 10 was completed by Lowes in 4th, Rins 5th, Syahrin 6th, Nakagami 7th, Pons 8th, Cortese 9th and Baldassarri 10th. The rest of our riders finished Salom 13th, Simón 14th, Márquez 15th, Cardús 17th, E. Pons 24th and Vierge 27th.

Zarco had been the dominant force in the official session at the start and in the middle part, but then Luthi took control with a good lap that made him the fastest. With about four minutes left, in the decisive final minutes of each pole position battle, we saw the Frenchman go to the top and not relinquish the first spot until the end, securing his seventh pole position of the 2015 season.

Great stuff.
