Joan Barreda triumphs at the Rally of the Pharaohs, with Viladoms 3rd
Rider Joan Barreda is the winner of the 2012 Rally of the Pharaohs, so great news from Egypt, with Jordi Viladoms 3rd.
Rider Joan Barreda made history last Saturday by winning the Rally of the Pharaohs, one of the most anticipated and important events of the season, and in which he took his Husqvarna to the top of the podium in this 2012 edition.
This victory by Barreda in Egypt is the first for the motorcycle brand in a desert rally event, making it a great day for the rider, the team and the brand. In addition, he won several stage victories during these days of competition across the lands of the pharaohs, specifically three wins, and closed the final stage in fourth place for the Spanish rider, but it was enough to be crowned 2012 Champion.
After the six stages of this Rally, our Barreda managed to prevail over tough rivals in action such as Jordi Viladoms and Paulo Gonçalves, among others, achieving a dream triumph with several stage wins and a great deal of fighting, while keeping a close watch in the final part of the competition. As always, pure teamwork from both the rider and the team. Meanwhile, Jakub Przygonsky with his KTM finished behind, and Jordi Viladoms completed the podium of this event, so two of ours are at the very top of the world of rally raids.
It was not easy, but on this occasion Barreda was able to hold off his closest rivals, and although the absence of some names was evident, it was clear that it was the great day for Joan, and so it was, he achieved a historic victory for the brand and a dream one for himself.
