Jakub Smrz is the best in the SBK Q1 at Assen
Rider Jakub Smrz was the fastest in the first Superbike Qualifying session at Assen, and the Effenbert-Liberty Racing Ducati rider has clearly shown he is the strongest both in free practice and in this Q1.
The red bullet seems to work very well on the Dutch track, with Smrz setting a lap time of 1:36.058. The Czech rider is therefore one of the favourites for tomorrow’s superpole and the race, and he also controlled World SBK Champion Max Biaggi, who was showing plenty of pace at this event.
The Italian had to settle for second place, just over two tenths behind the Czech rider, but he will surely make things difficult tomorrow in both free practice and Q2, especially after his disastrous outing at Donington Park.
Behind the Aprilia rider was his great friend Marco Melandri, and closing out what would be the front row of the grid was Michel Fabrizio. That means three Italians in the top positions, and not far apart in terms of times.
Meanwhile, our riders finished eleventh with Carlos Checa, twelfth with Joan Lascorz, and Rubén Xaus in fourteenth. They will surely improve their times tomorrow.
Q2 will take place tomorrow.
We will keep an eye on the SBK.
