Ian Hutchinson injures the same leg again
Bad luck for the Briton, who has injured the same leg again, the one that kept him out of competition for more than a year and that required 16 trips to the operating theatre
The British rider, who was one of the title contenders in the BSB, has once again fractured the tibia and fibula of the same leg he injured at Silverstone in 2010, which led to a real ordeal of months of recovery.
Apparently, it was not a fall; he twisted his leg while training on an off-road motorbike ahead of an exhibition scheduled in Excel (London). This means a recovery period of 12 to 16 weeks, so he will miss the start of the BSB.
Ian had a contract with the Swan Yamaha British Superbike team for this season and had every chance of fighting for victory in each race. This is a hard blow for the rider, who, after undergoing 16 operations to repair his earlier tibia and fibula fracture, now suffers the same injury again.
Hutchinson made history after winning five races in the same week of the 2010 TT. The team owner, Shaun Muir, confirmed that this setback is a hard blow given how little time is left before the start of the championship, in which they had every expectation of being at the front.
At the British championship presentation, the rider gave this assessment for the coming season:
This year is very important to me, because after a year out I am really eager to get started. I am happy to be able to compete again and to show the sceptics that I can still race. Until now I had not had the chance to do a full season and fight for the title. Now I have time to prepare for the BSB and devote myself to the championship full time.
