Honda will be the sole engine for Moto2
The Moto2 category is gradually taking shape. At the Spanish Grand Prix we learned that it has been decided that all teams will use Honda engines, so the decision on the single engine has already been made.
Therefore, the engine supply for the category that will begin racing in 2010 will go to the Japanese manufacturer of Honda. The other offers were rejected by the Standing Committee formed by Vito Ippolito, president of the FIM, and Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna.
So now all the teams can get back to work, because many projects were on hold until they knew which engine would be the single engine of the category. What they will be able to choose is a free chassis and whatever settings they deem appropriate for each machine.
The 600cc bikes will start racing next season, although they won’t be alone, as the 250cc bikes will still be on track. For at least one season, the two classes will coexist, just as happened in 2002 with MotoGP and the 500cc bikes.
We will keep a close eye on the World Motorcycle Championship.
