Gerard Farrés ready for his fourth participation in the Dakar

Some days ago, rider Gerard Farrés presented the team with which he will take part in the 2011 Dakar, the Catalan has his fourth participation in the toughest rally raid in the world ahead of him, and this time he has a better bike, a better team and arrives with more optimism.

This is the first time I arrive at the Dakar in better conditions. I have a better bike, a better team, and I am physically much better than in my last participations, when I always arrived hurt from injuries and crashes.

Farrés will form part of the Aprilia factory team alongside Chaleco López and three more riders, so the Japanese brand arrives at the event with many riders prepared to give everything for a place at the top of the standings.

With a year of development it has improved a lot. In the previous edition we did not know how it would respond, whereas this year we have complete confidence in it.

The team manager, Jordi Durán, stated:

Our team’s goal is to work so that our rider Chaleco López achieves victory in this Dakar.

We are aware that we have great rivals, and also that to win a race like the Dakar you need a great rider, a great team and a bit of luck.

From the outset, Chaleco López is rider number 1 and Gerard Farrés is number 2. Team orders will be issued as the race evolves, but it is clear that the riders will have to help each other in the order defined by the team.

We will keep a close eye on the Dakar.
