García and Viu take the victories in the Rookies Cup in Austria

Last weekend two new rounds of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies were held, undoubtedly one of the promotional cups with the most followers, which accompanies the Motorcycle World Championship at various circuits across Europe, making it a perfect school for the young selected riders.

On this occasion, both races were won by Spanish riders, in the first race held last Saturday we saw Marc García take the win after Aleix Viu was penalised for exceeding the track limits, which handed the first place to García. The current championship leader, Japan’s Ayumu Sasaki, completed the podium.

A very interesting race between the front-runners, with Viu and García battling until the end, but in the end the Race Direction rules gave the win to García. After the results of the first race, Sasaki holds a 23-point lead over Raúl Fernández.

Meanwhile, Viu took his revenge in the second race after the small disappointment of the penalty in the first heat. Furthermore, the young rider took the victory on the last lap, in a very intense battle with Sasaki, the current championship leader.

Viu managed to overtake Japan’s Ayumu Sasaki on the last lap to secure his second victory of the season. Viu crossed the finish line 0.183 seconds ahead of Sasaki and 0.263 ahead of Marc García, who completed the podium. These three riders pulled away from the rest of the group, which crossed the finish line more than 11 seconds behind the race leaders.

Following the results of this weekend, Sasaki remains as leader of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup with eight rounds completed. The Japanese rider holds a 22-point lead over Viu and 23 over Raúl Fernández, who finished seventh. The next round will be in the Czech Republic, where races 9 and 10 of the 2016 season will be held, everything is ready for this weekend.
