Efrén Vázquez the fastest in FP1 of the 125cc at Indianapolis
A few minutes ago the first of the 125cc free practice sessions of the world championship at Indianapolis ended. The fastest was Efrén Vázquez, who set his time on the final lap of the session.
It looked like once again Terol was going to take it, but in the end that was not the case. Vázquez crossed the line on his final lap in 1’51.445, reaching a top speed of 224.5 km/h, with Nico second, 0.065 behind the Bilbao rider.
Behind them, Zarco, who keeps pressing on every corner, and Cortese, who set the fourth-best time, finished 0.528 and 0.638 behind Efrentxu’s mark.
During these sessions we also saw Danny Webb saving a crash that seemed impossible, but despite hanging off the handlebars with both feet on the left side of his bike, he not only avoided falling but got back on the bike and returned to the track.
Viñales and Gadea ran laps of 1’52.936 and 1’53.303, but we already know they are riders who improve day by day and will end up at the front.
In these first sessions Adrián Martín, with a ninth place, seems to be higher up than usual. Let’s hope he can keep it up over the weekend and finally achieve a great result after so many problems.
Following the times, in an interview with Vázquez he confirmed that with the new asphalt there are fewer bumps, but the track is very dirty and they are 3 seconds slower than last year. He hopes the temperatures won’t rise too much, because he knows that penalizes him.
We will see how the rest of the sessions unfold throughout the afternoon, and we will have everything ready for FP2 to see which data is confirmed.
Spanish results FP1: Vázquez 1, Terol 2, Faubel 6, Moncayo 7, Martín 9, Viñales 10, Gadea 11 and Perello 28.
