Dany Torres, the best of the Red Bull X Fighters at Las Ventas

torresredbullxfightersmadrid09

The Red Bull X Fighters event at Las Ventas has been a success in attendance and follow-up. It seems that fans of flying motorbikes are growing in number, and the spectators also saw Spanish rider Dany Torres crowned the best in Madrid.

The night began with the appearance of Marc Coma on his KTM and the rider Nasser Altiya, Carlos Sainz’s teammate, on his Volkswagen, with which he performed two incredible jumps on the central mound, leaving the entire crowd speechless.

Shortly after, the protagonists appeared: the riders chasing the runners of San Fermín and getting ready to give it their all in the Las Ventas arena, especially provisional leader Eigo Sato, second-placed Rebeud and third-placed Sinclair.

The first round opened with the performance of Charles Pagés, who executed a series of flips, but the night did not end well for him: when attempting a front flip he fell to the ground and his chances were cut short. Even so, the crowd responded very well to the risk Pagés had taken, and appreciated his daring and determination.

Next was Tom Pagés, Charly’s younger brother, who left the audience trembling with his magnificent Superman backflip, Indian and a final no-hands trick. He was followed onto the track by André Villa, who began with a Cordoba backflip, a Superman Indian, a Cliffhanger and a spectacular Tsunami, taking first position and knocking Charly out.

The third to go was Jeremy Stenberg. The American did not want to risk his place in the next round and gave everything with a Nac Nac underflip, a backflip Tsunami and a one-handed BF with can can, leaving everyone behind and eliminating the younger Pagés.

The fourth was the leader of the provisional standings, Eigo Sato, who opened his round with a Cordoba backflip, a Cliffhanger, an underflip and a lazy flip, finishing third and advancing to the quarterfinals alongside Villa and Stenberg.

The quarterfinals were contested in pairs, in head-to-head duels, so only four riders would move on to the semifinal, meaning no one could afford any mistakes if they wanted to vie for victory.

The first were Rebeud vs Madison. The Frenchman began with a BF Superman, a no-hander underflip, a quarterpipe, a whip can can, a BF Solin, a pasodoble flip and a Tsunami Kiss of Death, without a doubt a great performance from the current champion of the Red Bull X Fighters.

Meanwhile, the Swiss rider gave it his all with an underflip can can, a lazy flip, a Tsunami Kiss of Death, a Picapiedra and a nac nac, never letting himself be intimidated by the Frenchman.

The next duel was Adam Jones vs Dany Torres. Jones began his round with a BF Solin, a BF Streaper, a Cliffhanger and several flips from the different ramps, a difficult task for the Spaniard, who had to give everything on home soil.

The Spanish rider came out convinced and without doubts, and to prove it he landed a flat Superman. The crowd could not close their mouths and could not believe the succession of tricks by Torres, who was in top form.

The third duel was Sinclair vs Stenberg, but the attention of this battle focused on the Australian, who, after attempting a double backflip, came up short and landed flat. At that moment silence fell over the bullring; the medics rushed in and took him to hospital.

Luckily the Australian is out of danger, but the scare was serious and the worst was feared, since the organization gave no news about the rider’s health. However, according to the latest reports, he is out of danger.

The last duel was between Villa vs Adams. In the end Adams, the prodigy of the discipline, prevailed over a good Villa, winning the support of both the jury and the public.

The semifinals arrived; this time too there were duels. The first was between Stenberg vs Torres. This time the Sevillian had a difficult task, because the American came out to go all in, performing a series of spectacular flips. But Dany was not going to be outdone and landed a Rock Solid Indian, an underflip Click Air, a whip, a Picapiedra, a BF Indian and a 180º tuck, all perfect.

The Spaniard was therefore in the final, after leaving this round to a standing ovation. But he had to wait to see his rival, who would come out of the duel between Madison vs Adams. Adams was in another galaxy and knew he could beat the Australian, and so he landed a Superman sit grab, a quarter, a clicker, a lazy flip and an underflip Nac Nac, all perfect, and finished with a spectacular Streaper.

Now came the big moment: the final between two greats, Torres and Adams. The first to have the two minutes of glory was Torres, who showed his potential with a Rock Solid Indian, a flat underflip, a Cliffhanger, a BF from the 35-meter ramp, a wild tuck, a BF Solin and a Picapiedra.

Adams went out, but the audience was left stunned by Torres’s performance and wanted to see it again. So this time the young rider could do nothing against the decision of the spectators, and Torres was crowned at the popular request, given the performance the Sevillian had put on.

Congratulations Dany Torres!

We will remain attentive to the Red Bull X-Fighters.
