Checa and Sofuoglu the best in the SBK Warm Up in Australia

The World Superbike and Supersport championships have held the warm up at Phillip Island Circuit, everything ready for what will be the first race of the season for both championships, with the best in SBK being Carlos Checa, and in SSP Kenan Sofuoglu.

Carlos Checa Superpole

Rider Carlos Checa was the fastest in the World Superbike Warm Up at Phillip Island Circuit. The superpole specialist remains very strong and is ready to deliver plenty of action on the Australian track. He was also the only one to dip under 1:30. For now the number 7 is showing great consistency and has been the best rider on the Australian circuit in this pre-race session.

Behind the home favourite came Tom Sykes, 0.713s behind the time set by the Ducati man, while the top 10 was completed by Fabrizio 3rd, Camier 4th, Davies 5th, Guintoli 6th, Giugliano 7th, Haslam 8th, Melandri 9th and Laverty 10th.

In Supersport, the fastest in the Warm Up was Kenan Sofuoglukenan Sofuoglu superpole. The current world champion set a time of 1:33.032 in a session that ended early after a red flag. It appears everything was caused by oil on the main straight from an engine failure on one of the bikes, although there has been no official confirmation. Behind the Turk was Sam Lowes, 0.166s back, so the Briton is right on the leader’s heels.

The remaining top 10 went to Leonov 3rd, Van der Mark 4th, Foret 5th, Roccoli 6th, Salom 7th, Scassa 8th, De Rosa 9th and Kennedy 10th. Baldolini placed 16th, and our Nacho Calero 28th. We are also surprised by Salom’s result, since the Mallorcan is injured: remember he has a fractured right little finger, so it is difficult, but he is giving everything to score some points in this first event.

Races coming up shortly.
