Carlos Checa will be diving among sharks in Barcelona

This year racing rider Carlos Checa has been chosen by the Aquàrium de Barcelona to carry out the legendary dive among sharks, so this time it’s his turn to get wet among friendly little creatures: the 2011 World Superbike Champion.

Checa and his Ducati were the big winners of the season in the World Superbike Championship. Since then he hasn’t stopped receiving prizes and awards, including the Personality of the Year award from the International Motorcycling Federation, making it a dream year for the Catalan rider.

Now he has to go through a nightmare to celebrate his best sporting year: diving among sharks to wish everyone happy holidays. He was chosen by the Aquàrium’s organizers to be the one to take part in this legendary celebration. So on Friday, starting at 9:45 a.m., we’ll have our World Superbike champion in danger, although Checa will show his inner tiger shark and won’t let any of his companions get close.

As is tradition, underwater, he will unfurl a banner with a Christmas message to make way, at 11:00 a.m., and together with the director of L’Aquàrium de Barcelona, Jordi Inglés, for the press conference, leaving his shark friends alone.

Other personalities who have shared the company of these beautiful sharks include Pedro Duque, the astronaut; Manel Estiarte, Arancha Sánchez Vicario, Judith Mascó, Luís Enrique Martínez, Lionel Messi, Bojan Krkic, Gervasio Deferr, Miguel Luque, David Barrufet, Rudy Fernández, and last season another great motorcycle rider, the 2010 MotoGP World Champion, Jorge Lorenzo.

So in 2011 we go from motorcycle rider to motorcycle rider: we’ll have Carlos Checa soaked among sharks, certainly a lovely image to wish all two-wheel fans a happy holiday season.
