The 2014 British Superbike Championship held its second round of the season yesterday at Oulton Park, so it’s a motorcycle Monday in the UK with a national series that always gives us spectacular races.
The first race went to pole-sitter Shane Byrne, who took the win in the first race of the day. The event got off to a very difficult start with a heavy crash for Simon Andrews, which made the safety car necessary.
Then, at the restart, Byrne showed his potential, taking the win in this race and leaving Brookes in second place, just 0.105s behind the winner. Things were tight right up to the last lap at the British circuit. Third place went to James Ellison, 6.183s back.
The top 10 was completed by Bridewell 4th, Easton 5th, Linfoot 6th, Cooper 7th, Westmoreland 8th, Kirkham 9th and Smrz 10th.
Meanwhile, in the second race Josh Brookes took the win, his first of the season and his team’s first, and he dethroned Byrne, who until then had won every race he had entered. We also saw a very interesting battle, but this time the Yamaha rider managed to beat the Kawasaki rider.
Brookes took the win in this second race, leaving Byrne 0.118s behind, while the top 10 was completed by Ellison 3rd, Easton 4th, Bridewell 5th, Westmoreland 6th, Linfoot 7th, Walker 8th, Hopkins 9th and Kirkham 10th.
With these two results, Byrne remains the clear leader with 95 points, Brookes is second but 30 points behind, and Ellison has moved to 31 points back.
Maximum action for the next round at Snetterton 300.
