The British Superbike Championship is in full swing for the 2015 season, with Oulton Park hosting the fifth round of the calendar, so there is maximum tension and excitement from what was seen on track and from all the participants giving their absolute best.
The first race went to Tommy Bridewell, who claimed his first victory in the national championship with his Tyco team BMW, and left second-placed Josh Brookes just 0.160s behind, so the finish line was a very close battle for the lead.
In the early laps Brookes managed to open up a small gap, but Bridewell was riding at a strong pace and managed to catch up with him and overtake. While in the early laps we saw plenty of crashes, including Broc Parkes, Jack Kennedy and Danny Buchan.
The action focused on the leading group of five fighting for victory, with the protagonists being Bridewell, Brookes, Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne, Stuart Easton and Ryuichi Kiyonari. In the end we saw Tommy take the win, followed on the podium by Brookes and Byrne.
In the second race, we saw two of the big favourites, Shane Byrne and Ryuichi Kiyonari, go down in a crash together, while James Ellison on his Kawasaki pushed hard, but Stuart Easton managed to overtake him and launch the decisive attack to try to build a gap over the rest of the riders.
So with Easton at the front, the excitement centred on the head-to-head between Ellison and Brookes, with Ellison finally finishing second in the second race at Oulton Park. Brookes completed the podium, just 0.071s behind the winner.
The top 10 was completed by Laverty 4th, O’Halloran 5th, Mainwaring 6th, Cooper 7th, McConnell 8th, Walker 9th and Jackson 10th. With this result, the championship standings have Ellison in first place with 109 points, followed by Byrne 8 points behind.
Maximum excitement in the races.
