Brett McCormick fractures 2 vertebrae in the crash at Assen SBK
Rider Brett McCormick has suffered a serious crash in the second race of the Superbike World Championship at the Assen Circuit, sustaining two serious fractures in the vertebrae area.
We have received bad news from Assen: rider Brett McCormick of the Superbike World Championship has today suffered a serious crash at the Dutch circuit during the second race of the championship, which has caused him two fractures in the fifth and sixth vertebrae, making it a major accident for the Effenbert-Liberty Racing rider.
Fortunately, it seems that doctors have ruled out neurological damage in the first moments, although we will still have to wait several hours to find out the full extent of the Canadian SBK World Championship rider’s injuries.
For now, the team has reported that the rider first went to the circuit’s medical centre at Assen. The doctors observed that he had an injury to the vertebrae area, as well as facial trauma with bruising around the eyes and a fracture of the fifth finger of his right hand, undoubtedly a very hard blow for the 68, who was quickly transferred to the Assen hospital, where more thorough tests are being carried out.
These first tests have located the fracture of the fifth and sixth vertebrae. Fortunately, the same examination also appears to have ruled out any neurological problems, so the rider is now being prepared for transfer from Assen hospital to the University Hospital in Groningen, where it will be decided which procedure to use to stabilise the fracture.
Another scare in the Superbike World Championship. Now we must wait for these first hours to pass to see the most recent medical report, and so follow one protocol or another. From PlusMoto.com we send all our strength and encouragement to Brett and his family. Get well soon.
