Breakup between Ducati and Althea Racing, and Checa?

The Ducati Corse brand and the Althea Racing team have split for the 2013 season, so Carlos Checa currently has no team for next year, which makes the situation worrying for the #7 in SBK.

The World Superbike Championship has kicked off with a bombshell, though unfortunately it is not very positive for our Carlos Checa: the 2011 World Champion rider has been left without a “team”, as Ducati Corse and Althea Racing have parted ways.

Therefore, we have another soap opera in this changeover from the 2012 to the 2013 season, since everything was set for next year with Carlos Checa and Davide Giugliano as riders and the spectacular Ducati 1199 Panigale as the star of the garage. But now we have another moment of doubt before the confirmation of riders, teams and brands.

In principle, there are many rumours and possible reasons for this split, but everything seems to point to money being the key issue, with disagreements and no kind of agreement between the parties to keep up this union that was so successful in the World Superbike Championship.

The current situation is that Carlos Checa has a contract with Ducati Corse, while Davide Giugliano has a contract with Althea Racing, so the riders are separated and we will see what happens to them. It seems that Bevilacqua of Althea says they are weighing several possibilities, such as staying in SBK with another motorcycle brand, or even betting on the MotoGP World Championship with a CRT.

For his part, Checa currently has no team, so we will have to see what happens with our #7 and his future for the 2013 season, since Checa is a Ducati man, his contract is with the Italian brand and for now he has no ride. We will have to wait and see whether Ducati creates an official team, or reaches an agreement with a new team or with a veteran who is willing to switch to the Panigale.

Many doubts about this surprising split. Now we will see what happens for 2013, after seeing how a few weeks ago Checa was training with the Panigale at the Motorland Aragón circuit, as were several other teams and riders from the World Superbike Championship.

Bad news for our #7; we have to wait.
