Bou wins the Indoor Trial national round in Zaragoza
Rider Toni Bou kicks off the Spanish Indoor Trial Championship in style, with a win in Zaragoza and fully motivated to defend his 2011 crown.
Rider Toni Bou made a winning debut at the Spanish Indoor Trial Championship, taking victory at the Zaragoza round and getting the national title defence off to a strong start. Bou has now won this national competition for the last five years.
Bou won convincingly in the first round of the calendar. There are not many more events, as the national season consists of just two rounds, so only the Girona race in November remains. With this new triumph, the Repsol rider has taken his fifth consecutive victory at the Príncipe Felipe Sports Pavilion in Zaragoza, and he will be ready for the decisive round in Girona.
Toni finished the first round with just three penalty points and as overall leader. In the final, which featured more sections and greater difficulty, the Repsol rider showed his power and was the only one to clear the first section with zero penalty points. He closed the event nine points ahead of runner-up Albert Cabestany on his Sherco. The podium was completed by Adam Raga, while Jeroni Fajardo finished 4th and Pere Borrellas 5th to complete the top five.
This edition of the Spanish Indoor Trial Championship will be decided at the event held in Girona on 1 November, so the excitement is at its peak, with Toni Bou the clear favourite to retain the 2011 crown.
Statements from Toni Bou:
I am very satisfied with this new win. After quite some time without competing in any Indoor Trial, I felt comfortable and enjoyed riding the bike, especially in the second lap. It was not an easy victory at all. I have said before that winning always demands a lot, and in this case there was extra pressure. Because it is such a short championship, any mistake, any misstep however small, has a decisive influence on the final result.
The overall standings now stand with Bou 1st on 10 points; 2nd Cabestany with 8 points; and Adam Raga on 6 points.
