The opening round of the 2014 Rodi Cup kicked off the competition season on the speed track of the Alcarrás Circuit, with Badia and González winning their respective races.
Last Sunday the Alcarrás Circuit held its first race of this year on the speed track. This is the first event of the 2014 Rodi Cup in its speed version, a championship created to delight the most amateur riders. It was a morning where, despite unpleasant temperatures and a light rain that barely wet the track, both the participants and the fans of this sport who came to the Lleida facilities were able to enjoy spectacular races.
The first to take to the track were the entrants in the Amateur class, a category for riders with lap times over 1:48, with Sergi Badia on his 1000cc machine at the front after taking pole in the morning practice. During the race, an exciting duel unfolded between Badia and Jose Antonio Feria, with the lead changing hands up to five times. In the end Badia managed to get past his rival and crossed the finish line with a narrow advantage of 119 thousandths of a second. Feria took first place in the 600cc classification, and third place went to Raúl Benito.
In the Open class, Alexis González, riding a 600cc machine, took pole. He led the race from the very first laps, Marc Rodríguez was unable to overtake him and had to settle for second place, though he was first in the 1000cc category. Benjamín Vallmanya finished third under the checkered flag.
The next event for competition at the Alcarrás Circuit will be the weekend of 12 and 13 April, with the second race of the Mediterranean Speed Championship.
