Anthony West will take part in the BSB with Supersonic Racing
Rider Anthony West will take part in the 2012 British Superbike Championship. The Australian has finally secured a spot, and he does so with Supersonic Racing and BMW.
We finally have good news for Anthony West, confirmed by both the rider and the team: the Australian will take part in the British Superbike Championship with the Supersonic Racing team, as Patric Muff’s teammate.
After the disappointment of the MotoGP CRT world championship, his possible withdrawal to Australia, and his near signing with the Team Swan Yamaha for the BSB, we finally have positive news for the 13, as he will compete in this powerful championship with an Italian team, in the year of his debut in the British national series.
His time in the World Motorcycle Championship and in the World Supersport Championship has given the Australian rider a great deal of experience, so he is a safe bet for results: in the 250cc category he earned five podiums, including a victory at the Assen Grand Prix. He also had good days in SSP with Kawasaki, so he brings a lot of experience that he will now have to put to use in a British championship that will be red-hot for 2012.
West’s statements after signing:
It has been a couple of difficult weeks for me, obviously. I lost the MotoGP opportunity, and before that I had never seen myself outside the paddock. But I saw what John was doing in the BSB last year and thought it could be a good change for me.
I don’t know many of the circuits, but I have experience learning quickly from other championships I’ve raced in before. I also have experience riding with BMW Superbike, but this is exciting for me. The competition this year looks like it will be some of the best ever seen in the BSB.
My fans have been giving me great support and also want to see me race in the BSB, to push me to continue my racing career.
The team will compete in the BSB with a BMW S1000RR, supplied by BMW Motorrad Italia and adapted to the technical regulations of the British championship.
Good luck, West.
