Adelberg wins the X-Fighters Glen Helen event, marked by the wind

The Red Bull X-Fighters event was left unfinished: due to very strong winds, the final, in which we were going to see the best riders in action, had to be cancelled. The organization prioritized the safety of the participants, so there was no final at Glen Helen, and Adelberg was the winner thanks to his strong qualifying run.

Last weekend was set to host the Red Bull X-Fighters event at Glen Helen (USA), but the organization considered that the conditions were not suitable for a Freestyle competition because of the strong wind, so the final of this third event of the 2013 season could not be held. Spectators, riders and organizers were undoubtedly left with a bitter taste, but it is clear that the safety of the participants is always the top priority.

In this way, Australian Rob Adelberg was the winner thanks to his first place in the qualifying round, held hours earlier. Frenchman Tom Pagès finished second, a result that puts him at the top of the overall standings, ahead of Spaniard Dany Torres, at the midpoint of the season. Rob Adelberg has achieved his first victory in the Red Bull X-Fighters World Championship.

Tom Pagès finished second in California, and this result once again makes him the leader of the overall standings with 245 points, 35 more than Dany Torres, who was seventh at this event. Japanese rider Taka Higashino finished third and is already preparing for the next event, which will take place in the Japanese city of Osaka in June. The wind had already forced the Qualifying round to be held on Saturday morning, local California time, instead of on Friday as is usual. Adelberg, in great form after winning the silver medal in the Moto X Freestyle category at the X Games Brazil, delivered a brilliant first round in Qualifying, in which he landed a perfect Cliffhanger Flip, earning 85.1 points. That was more than enough to beat Pagès, with 83.8 points, and Higashino, with 83.6. Dany Torres, the 2011 champion, struggled a great deal on the treacherous American track and could only manage seventh place in qualifying.

Adelberg’s statements:

I started my run with one of the hardest tricks I have ever done, the Cliffhanger Flip, and it was the best I have ever done.

Torres’s statements:

The wind was also noticeable in qualifying.
