30 Bankia Cuna scholarships awarded
Yesterday we witnessed the trials for the Bankia Cuna de Campeones, and how the 7 full scholarships and 23 half scholarships were awarded to help young athletes in their racing careers
Yesterday we had the chance to enjoy a day of racing at the Valencia Circuit, more specifically in the area of the Luis Climent driving school, where the trials to award the scholarships and half scholarships of the Bankia Cuna de Campeones took place.
We were summoned at 7:30 in the morning to check the children’s registrations and verify that they had all the documentation required by the organization. Afterwards, Julián Miralles gave the parents and children a short briefing in which he discussed the novelties of the competition.
The highlight was the change of category from Mini90 to Mini110, and the improvement of the MiniGP 140s in power. It was also explained that the competition would consist of 9 races and how the results would count throughout the championship.
The trials were divided into several groups of riders. 5 minimotos and Mini90 riders and 5 MiniGP140 riders. The first two groups ran together, while the “older” ones ran alone. The riders had two heats to complete in 10 minutes (12 for the 140s) to set the best time they could on the karting circuit, shortened at the end for development reasons.
The children, aged between 6 and 12 years old, gave their all, and at the end of the trials one could sense their nervousness, shared with their parents, waiting for the results. Not only did they have to be the fastest, but factors such as weight, fastest lap position in their heat, grades, age, championship experience, or crashes could add or subtract points. In the end, the scholarships and half scholarships were distributed as follows:
